We have had our first WCR Committee meeting in between the rains.  We have got great plans for the festival this year.  Be sure and look at our flyer, print them off and pass along to your friends.  We have a great line up again this year with Joe Jewell, Atwater & Donnelly, Ann Norris and Linda Thomas and Dan DeLancy.  Again on Thursday we will offer specialty classes with our featured performers.  There are no registration forms for this class.  It will be a 3 hour class for $30.00, paid directly to the performer by you.  Now where can you get a 3 hour nearly private instruction for that price?  We encourage you to take advantage of the time and personal assistance you will get.

On Thursday, May 28th we have been invited to play at the Magnolia Festival being held at the Choctaw Event Center.  The center is located across the road from the Casino.  We can unload at 7:50 pm at the northeast corner of the event center.  Play time is 8:00pm.  This is a Red Shirt event and bring your playing chairs with you.  We will be playing for 30 minutes.  PLEASE let Lynda know if you plan on playing.  If you need a play list e-mail her at

Red River Valley Dulcimer Club will be jamming and practicing on June 6, 2015 from 1-4 pm.  This will take place at the museum at Grayson County Frontier Village, 100 R C Vaughn Drive, Dennison, TX.  Directions are take Hwy 75 to Exit 67.  We will jam and practice rain or shine as we will have the use of the community room also.  If there is a conflict in the date you will be notified by e-mail.  We will be meeting to jam and will allow 10 minutes for instruction on a tune you having trouble with.  We will then slow jam that tune for a round of 3-6 times and bring it up to speed.  You will be surprised how much this will help your learning and playing a song.  So come and join us for this fun day.

This is a new festival that will take place on June 11-13, 2015.  It will be held at the Congo Baptist Church in Benton, Arkansas.  Registration forms and more information can be found by looking up John Keane on Facebook or contacting him at, or 1-318-687-1635.  John and Karen Keane, Linda Brockington, Duane Porterfield and Richard Ash will be the instructors.  They will focus on mountain dulcimer and flute.  If you’re in the area I am sure they would appreciate your support.

This will be the third year that David and Annette Lindsey have headed up a team and organized this festival.  This year’s date is Saturday August 1, 2015.  It is set in the valley of Red River New Mexico with beautiful mountains, pine trees and the river runs right through town!!!  It just inspires you to want to play your dulcimer!!!  The one day festival is held at the Red River Community House right in the heart of town with easy access to everything.  Again this year David and Annette have invited the club to go along with them.  We guarantee you will have a great time.  Featured entertainers and instructors will be Dave Para and Cathy Barton, Dana and Judy Hamilton, Irma and Scott Reeder and David Ellison.  It’s looking like a great group to be spending a day with!!  But wait it doesn’t end there.  Be sure to check the schedule for concert times on Friday and Saturday evenings!!!!

New this year David Lindsey (and friends) will be teaching a Mountain Dulcimer building workshop from kits by McSpadden.  David will guide you thru the building process starting on Sunday August 9 at 3:30 pm at the Red River Community House.  Classes will continue Monday through Friday from 1-3 pm.  You do not have to be an experienced builder or have tools.  These will be furnished by David’s Dulcimers.  There will be a sign up on the bulletin board for this class, and a limit of 10 dulcimers will be built. Fee for this class is $150.00.  When you’re finished you will have a quality McSpadden Sweet Sound mountain dulcimer.  But wait!!!!  On Saturday, August 15th you can take a two hour workshop from Annette Lindsey to help you get started learning how to play.  You can’t beat an opportunity like this.
