December 1 2014

Dear Friends,

The Red River Valley Dulcimer Club will meet on December 13, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 124 Evergreen, Durant, OK at 10 AM.  This will be the club’s “Christmas Gathering”.  It is always a fun meeting with time to socialize, relax and play music with our club friends.  So if you can make it please come and wear something festive and comfortable.  If you don’t have anything festive that’s ok too, stick a piece of Christmas Holly on your dulcimer and enjoy the day of fellowship.

The club will be providing the meat (BBQ) for the luncheon.  We must have a head count.  If you and any other family member plan to attend, PLEASE advise Lynda Bowers, either by RRVDC email or phone 215-622-6394, no later than Tuesday December 9.  Any left over meat will be available for purchase or possibly even a fun auction!  Those attending are asked to bring a side dish or a dessert to share with the meat.  Please bring a serving utensil for your dish and it is a good idea to bring your dish in a disposable container.   We have plenty of paper plates, cups and napkins.  Coffee and tea will be provided.   Also if you’re cooking something that is your favorite why not run off a few copies of the recipe to share with us.  We all love new recipes, especially at Christmas time!!!!

That evening the First Baptist Church will be presenting their “Living Christmas Tree” at 7 PM.  It takes place in the sanctuary of the church and is a beautiful sight and sound of the Christmas season.  If you have never seen this you’re missing a real work of art in the tree itself and the voices that fill it.  It is a beautiful program that truly puts the “Reason For The Season” in your heart.  We are so lucky to have many of our RRVDC club members and their family taking part in this.  They have put in many hours building the tree and practicing their music.  So if you can honor them by staying for this performance do so.  You won’t regret a minute of it.

The Northeast Texas Dulcimer Chorus will be hosting Ted Yoder, who is a National Hammer Dulcimer player, in a house concert on Thursday December 18th at 6:45 PM.  This will be held at the home of Joe and Janice Marsh in Pittsburg.  They live just south of Pittsburg on Hwy 271.

For more information and directions you can call Janice at 903-859-2507 or contact Teri Siddens at 903-293-8322.  In lieu of selling tickets, a “Love Offering” will be taken at the concert.

We have some things in the works for January but all the details have not been worked out just yet.  But keep January 17th open for the Annual RRVDC Potluck.  This will probably take place in Bennington.  Soon as we know the details we will let you know.  It promises to be a fun day!!!

Also in January, Coffee Creek will be gathering from January 21 to 25, 2015.  This January Jam started in 2005 when a group of “old friends” gathered to play music in the middle of winter.  This is an acoustic and all instruments are welcome, music jam.

Coffee Creek has plenty of RV sites, but the early birds can select their sites.  There are 8 full service cabins available and 5 camping cabins.  We know this is early planning but in order to secure the main building and possibly a smaller one for jamming we need to make reservations as soon as possible.  Twenty plus reservations will let them have both buildings to use.

Coffee Creek RV Park is located on Hwy 281, Exit 386, just off  I-20 about 45 miles west of Fort Worth or about twenty miles west of Weatherford.  Their phone number for reservations is 1-940-796-2277.

February 2015 will be the last ever Winter Festival of Acoustic Music in Irving, TX.  This is a workshop intensive festival with great instructors to assist you in playing your instruments.  At this time Andy Young & Al Tauber, Larry Conger, Aaron O’Rourke, Stephen Humphries and Jesse Isley are the headliners.   A host of other local professionals will be there also.  For more information on this festival look on their web at or call Linda Lowe Thompson at 940-387-4001

This is a special time of year when we celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus.  We are blessed in so many ways with our music.  If you do nothing else in the month of December, learn a new Christmas tune and play it for your friends, or if you have a few minutes, go to a local nursing home and play for the residents.   But share this wonderful time of year!!!

From all of us at RRVDC, may you have a Beautiful and Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

As always many thanks to Teri Siddens for our newsletter!
