May 2014 Newsletter

Dear Friends;

Red River Valley Dulcimer Club will meet on May 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 124 Evergreen, Durant, OK.   This is one week later than our regular date. Doors open at 9AM with new players and beginning classes for both mountain and hammer dulcimer.  There will be instructors for both available.  Regular meeting time is 10 AM to 3 PM.  For more information call Lynda Bowers at 215-622-6394.  We will break for lunch about noon.  We encourage you to bring your lunch as we will start the meeting during the lunch time in order to have more time for jamming.

This will also be the last meeting we will have with David and Annette before they leave on their summer tour.  So if you are having trouble with a particular song this is the meeting to be at.

We have a couple of very important things to say in this newsletter so please read carefully.

Work Day Planned!!!!

Tuesday, May 13th is a work day at David’s on the green room.  He plans to put up insulation, walls and trim so we will be ready to paint over the summer.  We still have several things to be done but this is most important right now.  Please plan to come help.   We will start about 8:30 AM, bring a brown bag lunch and we will work till we get it done or just too tired to go anymore!!!  David wanted us to remind everyone who has so diligently worked on the work days that he truly appreciates all the help!!  We are so lucky to have so many of our members who have knowledge and expertise in so many different fields.  It has made our projects go faster.  So come out and work with us, it’s always a fun time too.

Heads Up!!!!    Heads UP!!!!    Heads UP!!!!     Heads Up!!!!     Heads UP!!!!

Activities Going On

The RRVDC has had several plays going on in the last few weeks.  Fort Washita in Durant, OK, Earth Day in Sherman, TX and on May3 the Farmer’s Market in Dennison, TX.  Our Club is very lucky that we have great participation.  You can look at our Web site and Face Book and see pictures.  A good time was had by all and we appreciate your joining us.

Just a note, Ft. Washita would like us to participate again next year.  So if you are interested, you may want to start looking for period clothing (1800’s).

“Glen Rose” will be the next gathering of dulcimer players.  This takes place at Oakdale Park in Glen Rose, TX, May 9, 10 & 11, 2014.  It is sponsored by the Lone Star State Dulcimer Society.  There will be music on stage all day long plus evening concerts.  Friday and Saturday nights there will be a dance in “Hamilton Hall” called by none other than Dana Hamilton with the “Anyone Can Play Band”.  It is always a fun festival so come join the rest of us in a great weekend!!!  For more information check out their website at for performers and schedules.

RV camping is available by calling the park at 254-897-2321.  Host hotel is LaQuinta in Glen Rose.  Reservations can be made at 254-898-0679.  Be sure and tell them you are with the dulcimer group and if you’re an AARP member you get a discount.

We have heard our friend Willie Malone has had some medical issues in the past few weeks.  She will be up to visitors during the daytime by this week, so if you are in Denton go by and visit with her. We miss her friendly face and playing dulcimer with her.  So Willie  get well soon and we will be checking on you!!!  We miss you!!!
