April 2014 Newsletter

Dear Friends;

Red River Valley Dulcimer Club will not meet in April due to the meeting falling on Easter weekend.  We hope all of you will take some time and enjoy the renewal of the Easter season with family and friends.

Monday March 24th the Winter Creek Reunion board met in Paris for the first meeting of planning.  We have so much in the way of entertainment planned.  Can’t wait to tell you all about who is coming.  News will be forth coming soon as we firm up dates with our entertainers.  It’s looking like it will be another great festival.

We do have news from Sue Carpenter.  She has a new website and a new book called Joined in Harmony.  Take a look at her website at suecarpenter.net. For more information.  She said she is still “tweaking” the website to get it just right.  She has lots of interesting things to look at.

RRVDC has several plays coming up or in the “works”.  In order to plan for these we need to know who will be able to come and play music.  A lot of planning goes into these performances.  If you are asked to respond please do so to the person and phone number provided.

On Saturday April 5, 20 14 the RRVDC will be playing at the Fort Washita Rendezvous.  It is located at 3348 Oklahoma 199, Durant, OK.   We are planning on getting there about noon and have a picnic lunch (bring your own food).  After lunch we will set up and play music.  The setting for the Rendezvous is in the 1700’s-1800, so wear clothing appropriate for that era.  Our chairs and stools will have to be covered with a cover like a quilt or something that would go along with that time also.  Please let Lynda Bowers at 215-622-6394 know if you can make this play.  There is an entrance fee and parking charge that will be waived for the club members who are participating.

Earth Day in Sherman, TX on April 26th.  We have the 9:30 AM slot in the acoustic tent.  We will send more information as we get it.

May 3rd we will play at the Farmers Market in Dennison.  Plan to arrive about 8:30 am to set up and start playing at 9AM.  This event ends about noon.

May 9-11th is Glen Rose as we all call it, hosted by the Lone Star State Dulcimer Society at Oak Dale Park in Glen Rose TX.  This is a really fun festival, with great entertainers, concerts, workshops; join in with the “Anyone Can Play Band”, free Square Dance lessons and jamming in a family setting.  Concerts on Friday and Saturday nights.  How much better can it get?  Well it’s free!  For camping reservations call Oak Dale Park at 254-897-2321 or 877-713-2340. The host hotel for Glen Rose will be La Quinta Inn, 101 West Bo Gibbs Blvd.  They have blocked off rooms for the Dulcimer group.  To make reservations you can go online at www.lq.com/en.html or call 254-898-0686.  Be sure to tell them you are with the Dulcimer group and if you have an AARP card you get a discount and/or a senior discount.  Call early rooms will go fast.

Keep on strumming and picking!

 AS ALWAYS, MANY THANKS TO TERI SIDDENS FOR PUTTING TOGETHER THIS NEWSLETTER!
